Sažetak
Objectives: to find the most effective antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of asympthomatic urogenital infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (CT). Patients and methods: 60 patients (44 women and 16 men, mean age 37.5 yrs) were enrolled in a randomized, comparative study. They were all treated in STD Clinic and the diagnosis of asymptomatic CT infection was made. CT presence was detected on McCoy cells culture and/or by DNA RNA hybridization (DIGENE Hybrid capture CT-ID TestŽ) from urethral and/or endocervical swabs. The patients were randomized in 4 groups regarding therapy ; 15 patients in each 1) azithromycin 1x1.0 g in a single dose, 2) azithromycin 1x0, 5 g per 6 days, 3) doxycyclin 2x100 mg per 7 days, 4) doxycyclin 2x100 mg per 14 days. The bacteriological efficacy was evaluated 3-4 weeks after the end of the treatment. Results: In the first group the eradication of CT was achieved in 8 (53, 5%) patients, in the second group in 13 (86, 6%) patients, in the third group in 10 (66, 6%) and in the fourth group in 12 (80%) patients. There was no significant difference between groups. Conclusion: As there has still no consensus been reached on the treatment of asympthomatic CT urogenital infections and different therapy regiments in our study showed comparable antimicrobial efficacy, we recommended that the therapy efficacy should be evaluated in every single case by one of the standardized microbiological methods.
