Sažetak
The highly probable increase in the frequency and amplitude of extremely hot weather events under global warming is the subject of considerable public and scientific interest. Extremely hot events may exert major impacts on human health more than any other form of severe weather. Here, we analyse daily temperature extremes over Croatia in a regional climate simulation for 1989-2008 period carried out with the regional climate model RegCM4.2. First, the model is run at a 50-km horizontal resolution over the EURO-CORDEX domain with the lateral boundary conditions provided by the ERA-Interim reanalysis (RegCM_0.44). Second, the model is run at a finer 12.5-km horizontal resolution over a smaller domain covering the Mediterranean region driven by the RegCM_0.44 fields (RegCM_0.11). The frequency and duration of simulated maximum temperatures exceeding commonly used climatological thresholds from both experiments are compared with daily EOBS data as well as with the observed data from the Croatian meteorological stations.
