Sažetak
Global financial crisis in 2007 has significant impact on economy, bank stability and profitability of national economies of countries around the world. Banking sector in Croatia, as in other banking systems, in last two decades, is becoming larger, more complex and developing their business models on applications of innovative financing techniques, instruments and information technologies. The goal of this research is to explore the characteristics and extent of the economic crisis in Croatia, its impact on efficiency and profitability of the Croatian banking sector and on profitability of major banks in Požega and Slavonia county. The research will be based on a representative sample of clients in Požega and Slavonia county (households and companies). In research we will analyze the following hypothesis for Slavonia county: effects of the Crisis on the economy, the soundness of the loan portfolio of banks which operate in Slavonia county and categories of most vulnerable loan portfolios. The research methodology will include most important indicators used in the banking industry, such as ROA, ROE, reservations, NPL, cost to income ratio etc. and their movement in recent years and expectations about future trends.
