Sažetak
High risk of developing pancreatic cancer is defined as a >10-fold increase of risk of developing pancreatic cancer compared to the normal population. Such risk is found in people with a hereditary predisposition, and includes the following conditions: familial pancreatic carcinoma, hereditary pancreatitis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, HNPCC, BRCA2 and FAMMM. Preventive strategies are focused at discovering pre-malignant lesions (PanIN and IPMN), while screening aims at discovering intraepithelial and small non-metastatic carcinomas ; both strategies currently employ EUS and/or MRI as methods of choice, with EUS FNA as the method to obtain cytological diagnosis. Due to the lack of definitive evidence, it is still unclear when the surveillance strategies should be started, and how often employed, though a 6-12 month follow-up period seems to be the most cost-effective. Preventive strategies should aim at avoiding known risk factors related to pancreatic cancer development, such as smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity.
