Sažetak
The formation of endothelial cell monolayer on prosthetic implants was not sufficiently explored. The main reasons leading to the development of thromboses and/or intimal hyperplasia is the lack of endothelialization of prosthetic implants. In the present paper, oxygen and fluorine plasma treatment were chosen to modify the surfaces of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene (PS) discs. Oxygen and fluorine plasma treatment modified polymer surface wettability making them hydrophilic and hydrophobic, respectively. Endothelial cell adhesion and viability were compared after polymer surface was plasma modified. The results presented in this paper indicated that hydrophilic surface has better properties needed for endothelial cell adhesion and growth and may thus have an important role in vascular reconstructive surgery.
