Sažetak
Business Information System (BIS) represents a certain number of computerized functions and processes, i.e., subsystems. The key tasks of a BIS predominantly pertain to a computerbased "coverage" of business transactions (Transaction Information System, TIS) and subsequently also to the provision of necessary information to managers in an appropriate time and useable format. An assortment wholesale is situated between a specialized wholesale and a retailer, i.e. ; between producers and retailers. In Eastern Croatia's assortment wholesale, 10-odd corporations are operational (with ca. 100 or more employees). These are predominantly the newly established corporations, for the former socialist trade organizations that have serviced the customers in the territories of their respective domicile municipalities have ceased with their operation or have been split in smaller corporations. Nowadays, the largest assortment wholesaler in Eastern Slavonia is Osijek's Alastor Limited Liability Company. This company was not established in the proprietary transformation processes but initiated its operations in 1993 as a private company. Today. the entire business trasactions of Alastor Limited Liability Company are computerized, and the facilities the wholesale warehouse are under a permanent physical and video surveillance. On a 6.500 m2 trading area, its Osijek-based warehouse offers ca. 30, 000 foodstuff items, utensils, dry goods and toys, glassware and ceramic articles and hobbyist assortment. It pertains to a combined wholesale and retail facility, attending to business mostly as a C + C warehouse. Osijek's Alastor Limited Liability Company supplies ca. 1, 500 stores, with the goods of some 250 suppliers entering its warehouse. The Alastor's wholesale warehouse TIS is based upon o Point of Sale (POS)-European Article Numbering (EAN) system. Around 90% of items entering Alastor Limited Liability Company are marketd by an EAN bar code. For other items, this wholesaler tags an intern code of his own. In the wholesale warehouse observed, 16 cash desks (POS's) the laser optical EAN-code scanner terminals are situated. The cash desks terminals are connetded via Local Area Network (LAN) to the central memory. Actually, the whole Alastor's info-structure is based upon a personal computer (PC) network. The backbone of Alastor Limited Liability Company's information system is provided by PC-compatible servers. In order to safeguard the security of operation itself, the main server makes up a cluster based upon two HP NetServer LH4's. In addition, existent are also Compaq Proliant 1600 (2 x Pentium II 400 MHz, 3 x 9 GB) and Compaq Priliant 800 (2 x Pentium 200 MHz, 2 x 9 GB). These servers execute additional network functions, being, for example, the file, printer, or intern e-mail system servers and the like. The operating system (OS) whereupon the network servers are based is comprised by the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server. The client computers are based upon the Microsoft Windows 95/98 OS, while the PC cash desks (POS's) are based upon the Microsoft Windows NT 4 Workstation OS. The database server whereupon the business system is based is comprised by the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise, while the business transaction system is a SUSTAVTM program solution provided by the Split-based ENEL Company. In an everyday work, the Microsoft Office 97 program package is used, while the Microsoft Outlook 98 is used for the in-company message interchange. The network is outfitted as a UTP Cat 100 Mbit/s LAN with 85 network plug-ins. The network is segmented, so that there are two SMC EZ 100 switches. One 3Com SuperStack II hub is plugged into each of them. The more demanding clients are switch-plugged, while the others are connected via hubs. When Alastor Limited Liability Company initiated its operation, the EAN code was not used. The commodity business transactions were compujterized, but some subsystems were not online, so some procedures (e.g. document creation) could not be automated. The majority of other assortment wholesalers in Eastern Slavonia is today still at this stage.
