Sažetak
The efficiency of filler on the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the polymer depends on their distribution, filler/polymer surface interactions and the size of the filler. With the aim to improve those properties extensive research has been devoted to the field of functionalization of different filler types. TiO2 based nanotubes, as one of the fillers, have been the subject of intensive research due to their high surface area, semi- conducting and catalytic properties. The other reason for great interest is easy and cheap preparation by hydrothermal method. Sodium TiO2 based nanotubes (NaTiNT) were prepared by hydrothermal method and functionalized with different silane coupling agents. The existance of the chemcial bond between silane molecules and nanoparticles was confirmed by simultaneous differential scanning calorimetry- thermogravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), equipped with electron dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), mapping. Functionalized NaTiNT were mixed with epoxy resin and hardener in concentration 1%, 2% and 3%, and cured at 90°C. The properties of prepared nanocomposites were compared to the epoxy. The thermal and mechanical properties of prepared nanocomposites were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), DSC-TGA and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Results showed that prepared nanocomposites showed higher glass transition temperatures and an increase in modulus compared to the pure epoxy. Furthermore, the thermal stability of nanocomposites increases with the increased loading of functionalized NaTiNT.
