Sažetak
Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability to perceive and express emotion, assimilate emotion in thought, understand and reason with emotion, and regulate emotion in the self and others (Mayer and Salovey, 1997). EI can be assessed via two types of conceptualizations: as a self-report, and as an ability conception. Self-reported approach encompasses behavioural dispositions and self-perceived abilities. The Emotional Skills and Competences Questionnaire (ESCQ) was applied to a sample of university students (N=4502) in 12 countries (Argentina, China, Croatia, Finland, India, Japan, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Sweden, USA) from four continents. It is a measure of self-reported emotional intelligence and was developed in Croatian settings, on theoretical basis from the Mayer and Salovey emotional intelligence four branches model. The ESCQ consists of 45 items divided in three subscales: Perceive and Understand emotions, Express and Label emotions, and Manage and Regulate emotions. Reliability analysis showed satisfactory Alpha internal consistency of each subscales and total ESCQ score in all the samples. Several statistical procedures were applied in an attempt to find out possible problems in item equivalence in between cultures. Results showed the two third of items follow the original dimensionality of the Questionnaire. Somewhat different arrangement of items was found measuring the ability of managing and regulating of emotions. As shown by of differential item functioning (DIF) item bias is frequent in all scales, and the proportion items which are biased in the scales is varying from .14 to .63.
