Sažetak
The objective of this paper was to examine the differences in features of homicide and criminal procedure against perpetrator of homicide regarding the intoxication by alcohol at the time of commiting homicide. The sample was composed of 492 perpetrators of homicide in Croatia who were sentenced by imprisonment in 15 years period (1980 1995). For the purpose of this paper, the sample was divided in two groups: (1) examinees who were not under alcohol intoxication at the time of commiting homicide (N=207). Chi square tests were used to assess the statistical significance of associations between offender's intoxication by alcohol at the time of commiting homicide and offender related variables.
Given results revealed that examinees who were intoxicated by alcohol at the time of commiting homicide were significantly more often males, alcoholics or at least regular alcohol consumers. In comparison to other examinees, they significantly more often committed murder and attempted murder motivated by non-family conflicts. They more rarely used their own physical strength when commiting homicide but tended to verbal and physical abuse of their victims who were also uncritical in relation to homicide they committed. They were more often incapable due to diminished mental capacity than other examinees and they were significantly more often ordered the security measure of compulsory treatment of addiction.
