Sažetak
The paper discusses the role of the Holy Sepulcher in recreating the range of symbolical and iconographic forms in the visual arts with special accent on the art in Croatia during the early Middle Ages and Middle Ages with special reference to the iconography of Resurrection. The Sepulcher of Christ was a holy place of the unique significance and its substance as well as its form developed symbolism which was materialized in architectural or pictorial „copies“ throughout the Christian world from the early Christian period up to the Middle Ages. The visual arts held a privileged position in representing „holy places“ of Jerusalem and through these representations they incorporated biblical references, iconic powers and, the most important, expectation of end of time and heavenly Jerusalem.
