Sažetak
Depression is a severe mental illness often accompanied by suicidal thoughts, ideas, but also attempted suicides and unfortunately accomplished suicides. One’s aptitude for suicidal thinking and reactions is usually connected to the youth period of ego forming. We will present the case of a female patient that has been treated for depression with constant suicidal thoughts and ideas during the last year. Treatment was started with an SSRI class antidepressant which was afterwards discontinued due to treatment inefficiency and a dual antidepressant introduced. Two months after starting treatment with a dual antidepressant and ten months after seeking help from a psychiatrist, the patient for the first time verbalized early sexual trauma of being sexually molested by her cousin. Patients’ mental health significantly improved and suicidal ideation ceased after being introduced to individual psychotherapy, two month treatment with a dual antidepressant in adequate therapeutic doses and verbalizing her early sexual trauma. What part did dual antidepressant treatment play in successful recovery of this patient and to what extent did psychotherapeutic treatment and patients’ verbalizing early sexual trauma aid to the recovery? Synergistic effects of a dual antidepressant treatment and verbalization of early sexual trauma significantly improved patients’ mental health state and fostered mental health recovery.
