Sažetak
The arrival of the French in the area of modern-day Kaštela of 1806 was evident in all aspects of then-current life, especially in the introduction and acceptance of new legal standards and regulations which the French attempted to implement mostly among the illiterate folk through laws and decrees, as well as in the collective image and the relationship between the Kastela inhabitants and the new „potentates“. It was under such circumstances that the church community in Kaštela contributed greatly, through spiritual and secular work of fraternities and parish archives, to the expansion and preservation of the native language inside of the official Italian language of the French administration.
