Sažetak
Safe long-term management of high level radioactive waste and spent fuel represents one of the most important issues of the modern world. One of the key elements in all modern national radwaste disposal programmes is underground facility in which characterization, testing, and technology development will be carried out. Such facilities are known as underground research laboratories (URLs), and are necessary to provide scientific and technical information as well as practical experience. Croatia is in urgent need of restarting repository development programme. One of the most important elements in that endeavor is URL, which can be easily designed and constructed considering experience of Croatian experts in construction of underground spaces.
