Sažetak
Karyotyping forest trees produces results that were up to now presented in many different, non standardized forms, thus making the results almost impossible to compare. To avoid this difficulty, a standard data presentation must be set up. This paper presents a computer program that enables any researcher to enter his data in a standardized maner, to have this data stored in a centralized database ready for an instant analysis and available worldwide via Internet. Using such computer software and the Internet in order to get instant karyotype analysis would be of a great help in chromosome measurement analysis. Presenting a standardized karyotype analysis in the Pinaceae family through such software and the use of Internet, we expect to encourage the scientists all over the world to work out more analyses for more species and variants. Thus, all karyotype analyses could be compared in a standardized manner by using the same program with a simple user interface. If authors would follow the standardized method of data analysis, and use the proposed software which would be available through the Internet, results would be presented as numerical and graphical karyotype to the each author as a standard, i.e. in the same way for all investigators and for all species investigated. A central database could be organized on a server (i.e. at the University of Graz, Austria, where all data from different researchers and from different countries would be collected through Internet by time. All data sent to the server would be authorized (like a paper published in a scientific journal) and available for use after researchers permission or after permission given by a person working at the server (like from the editor of a scientific journal). Researcher willing to publish the work in an appropriate scientific journal could use the printouts of numerical and graphical karyotypes sent back to him by the server. Someone could present data collected by time (i.e. every four years) on a cytogenetical symposium, authorized by all contributors of data sent to the server. Improvements of the software are expected through discussions and during the workshop presentation.
