Sažetak
Information-communications systems as the core category of the information society have to take new strategies related to network and content access, global mobility of resources and users, and interactivity of services. Most of these things are connected with the terms of network topologies, structures and communication media, and the success of next generation information-communications systems is based on wireless communications system implementation with mobile access and services.
Mobile communications systems are now entering a rapid growth phase in which a new generation of applications based on mobile networking categories such as the Wireless Application Protocol, Wireless Markup Language with HTML Mobile, and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System will conveniently link mobile users to the global information-communications systems and corporate information bases for electronic commerce, delivery of multimedia content and interactive applications.
To deliver all of the services and content to mobile users, efficient wireless applications should be implemented globally, and wireless service providers need to make higher bandwidth capacity available to their users. Two technologies, HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) promise to increase mobile networks infrastructure and utilization. In the same time, some older technologies take a new form of services. As example, pager industry now offers new interactive services for mobile users including mobile messaging and access to information on the hoof; fax services introduced facility that may direct incoming fax messages to receiver's e-mail box and with the pager or other network appliance, user is notified when a fax arrives in the mailbox. Thus, on the mobile scene we can find several network appliances, the access devices, such as mobile (handheld) phone, Personal Digital Assistant, pager, digital book reader, and several embedded system devices. All of these categories describes the new shape of information-communications systems that are going wireless on the global basis.
The essential reason to go wireless is to make users be mobile and to free them from the barriers of the space and time. Increased support for unified global network standards, new pricing schemes and vast improvements to handheld devices have made wireless strategies more practical and compelling than ever. As wireless solutions become more prevalent and their advantages become more apparent, organizations as well as individual users will find wireless (mobile) information-communications systems as the basic category in reaching of networked information society in the next millenium.
The paper describes basic principles of wireless solution needed for new generation of information-communications systems, and from the starting axioms, the conclusion on strategy directions and the shape of global networking is done as the result of strong research in the field.
