Sažetak
The benefits of education have been widely recognised both by the economists and by policy makers around the world. Increased participation in the tertiary education and large expenditure on education provide incentives to determine the value of investment and the most commonly researched is the wage effect of education. High education is usually associated to higher earnings and the purpose of this paper is to explore the effects that education has on wages in the Croatian labour market. Based on data coming from Labour Force Survey, simple Mincerian type of function is used and results suggest that there is 8, 5% of increase in average wage due to additional year of schooling. Furthermore, the coefficient stagnated in the 2005-2010 period, most probably due to the recession. Although having lower earnings in absolute amounts, coefficient for females is slightly higher implying higher return for women, which could reflect reduced earnings inequalities at higher level of education and lower forgone earnings of females.
