Sažetak
High-n ultraviolet (UV) or visible (VIS) lines of highy ionized carbon (C V and C VI) were often used for plasma diagnostics in the first studies of laser-produced plasmas. More recently, the spectroscopy of such plasmas mowed into VUV and XUV spectral regions and these lines were not used anymore. Using the same laser, target material and target geometry, we repeated old experiments and recorded a whole UV-VIS spectrum of plasmas produced. Our spectra show that
high-n carbon lines are very weak or not detected at all. More, the observed wavelengts of some lines differ by several nm from their table values (NIST tables of spectral lines were used for comparison). Often, at observed wavelengths strong lines of lower ionisation stages of carbon are found so a possibility of erroneus line identification in eary experiments can not be excluded. We thus conclude that these lines should be avoided in modern diagnostic of laser-produced carbon plasmas.
