Sažetak
The premature flowering before development of common leaf number is a frequent occurrence in some cultivars of virginia tobacco. Reduced leaf number can significantly decrease the yield of tobacco. The influence of genetic and enviromental factors in encouranging of premature flowering was studied in this research. The prematurely and normally flowering plants of flue cultivars GV3, VaD and Kutsaga 51 were used as source material for investigation. The F1 progenies of crossing between prematurely and normaly flowering plants as well as the progenies of self-polination were tested in the comparative experiments in field conditions. Climatic conditions before and after transplanting, the number of prematurely flowering plants and average number of leaves per plant were analysed during the research. It was found that the premature fowering did not occur in the years of testing. The average leaf number of the progenies of the prematurely and normaly flowering plants was similar, and the time of flowering was also almost the same. The results of experiments showed that enviromental factors had greater influence on the occurrence of premature flowering than the genetic properties of the plant. If a cultivar has a heritable tendency of premature flowering, there will be no premature flowering if the climatic conditions during seedling growth and transplanting do not favour it.
