Sažetak
Attitudes are defined as acquired dispositions to react positively or negatively to an object (Eagly i Chaiken, 1993) and are based on emotional, cognitive and behavioral components that are interconnected. Although attitudes are relatively permanent and stable, under influence of changed circumstances and new experiences they can be modified. Attitude’s modification can lead to behavioral changes. Children develop and acquire attitudes during socialization process, with direct, personal experience and indirectly, interacting with social environment. School environment is very favourable context for development and modification of children's attitudes, especially for attitudes toward persons that are somehow different. Previsious research on children's attitudes show contradictory results. In the present study we explore children's attitudes toward persons with physical disabilities. 132 elementary school students from 3rd to 8th grade (from 9 to 14 years old) filled up modified version of The Attitudes Towards Disabled Persons Scale (ATDP ; Yuker, Block i Campbell, 1960). Results show children's attitudes orientation, but also gender and age differences. Results are discussed within the social developmental theories and are proposed practical implications.
