The concept of multiculturalism in the European post-Communist societies is based on strong civilizational, social, ethnic and historical links with other Central European nations and its concept of multicultural regionalism. The newly independent states strive for equality with leading nations of the world ; nationalities and ethnic groups strive for their national and ethnic self-determination and self-expression.
