Sažetak
This talk addressed the linguistic diversity in the city of Osijek in terms of its covert and overt policies and practices and was based on children’s attitudes towards their languages. In the first part, the context of the research was presented (The LUCIDE project of the European Commission). This was followed by a brief introduction to Osijek minorities and the languages spoken in Osijek. Results that emerged from in-depth interviews conducted with multilingual children from Osijek were presented and some conclusions were drawn with regard to pockets of good practice but also some overlooked issues regarding divided education in a divided society and the neglect the official language policies reveal for minority languages at all levels.
