Sažetak
Starting from 2006 according to the EU Directive 1999/31/EC any kind of waste tyres disposal in the environment is forbidden. Consequently, a significant amount of waste tyres became available for production of new eco-products. With around 25 000 thousand waste tyres per year Croatia has recognized the problem and drafted the Regulation on waste tyre management. Having a modern tyre recycling plant and respectable pre-cast concrete plants, Croatia has all preconditions for further exploration of obtained by – products for production of eco innovative products. In cooperation with industrial partners, researchers from the University Of Zagreb Faculty Of Civil Engineering have developed two different eco materials containing by – products from mechanical recycling of waste tyres for production of innovative products ; lightweight concrete for production of Rubberized concrete noise barriers – RUCONBAR, project co funded by EU Commission and rubberized hybrid steel fibre reinforced concrete for production of Concrete track systems – ECOTRACK, project co funded by Business innovation centre of Croatia. Both projects are focused on development of sustainable concrete technologies, consumption of waste tyres and know-how transfer from scientific community to industry.
