Sažetak
Fostering entrepreneurship is widely considered as a condition for economic growth and thus a smoother transition towards a more prosperous economy is ensured. This is especially the case in countries such as Croatia, which has just joined the European Union and faces the challenge of developing entrepreneurial spirit and reinforcing the co-operation between the worlds of education and business. The paper presents the results of a survey aiming to identify appropriate types of sup-port, training and advice that small businesses in Croatia need and can use to improve their business. The survey studies to what extent the responding enterprises have re-cently introduced innovations, how they are engaged in R&D activities and what training and support they need in order to bring their ideas to the market. The survey was made in the framework of the EU- funded SLIM project, which aims at transferring two innovations in the realm of business start-up training and support. The main challenge of this innovation transfer is to adapt two existing techniques, in particular an online self- assessment management tool and a programme on Intellectual Property Management, and to make them accessible to SMEs in Croatia and beyond. In order to achieve this task, the project will largely rely on e-learning modular courses. The new online programme will be built on the findings of a needs analysis of the SMEs in Croatia, presented in this paper, and in the other partners’ countries, Poland and UK.
