Sažetak
A sort of question that a naIve reader is quite likely to expect that a chapter like this one should raise is about the best way of translating metonymy, along the lines of strategies proposed by Newmark (1985: 304-311) for translating metaphor. A variation on this theme might be to ask how Cognitive Linguistics can help us arrive at the most suitable translational equivalents of metonymic expressions. in this chapter we go part of the way towards answering the second question. Specifically, we will consider how Cognitive Linguistics can help us: (i) become more aware of possible problems, and therefore, (ii) more easily find appropriate solutions when dealing with metonymy and related phenomena in translation practice.
