Sažetak
With the rising trend of oil prices the need to reduce fuel consumption in commercial vehicles is becoming even more emphasized. As gasoline prices have been literally tripled in the past few years fuel efficiency is becoming increasingly important. This presents a problem for older and non OBD-II compliant petrol vehicles, as one prerequisite for efficient fuel consumption is the guidance of a car trip computer. By optimizing driving cycle the driver has the ability to save fuel by means of intelligent driving cycle. In this paper we present a cost effective solution in a form of external car trip computer for older and non OBD-II compliant vehicles. Furthermore, the proposed trip computer is compared with existing solution. The results of measurements show that by implementing car trip computer with instantaneous fuel consumption it is possible to create accurate fuel consumption measurement, resulting in reduction in overall fuel consumption. Additionally, by reducing fuel consumption the induced CO2 emissions are also reduced, lowering the impact on the environmental.
