RHABDOMYOSARCOMA OF THE ETHMOID SINUSES - CASE REPORT Miljenko Vukoja, Ljerka Banožić, Andrea Šimić Klarić, Marijana Vuković Gugić, Marta Gotovac, Nikola Gotovac General County Hospital Požega ; Department of Otorhinolaryngology Rhabdomyosarcoma occurs very rarely, but it is the most commo'n malignant tumour of the nose and paranasal sinuses in children. Because it is unpredictable, treatment is complex and controversial, often with a poor outcome. Case report: A 14-year-old boy was sent from an ophthalmologist for further examination due to a protrusion of his right bulbus and double vision. He had no neurological disorders. Because trauma had been suspected, local treatment was provided. Since there was no improvement, further examination was indicated. MRIs of the brain and orbits and an MRA revealed a tumour (30x31x35 mm) of the ethmoid sinus and right orbit. The boy was then transported to a tertiary facility for further diagnostics and treatment. A partial resection of the tumour (rhabdomyosarcoma) was performed and was fojlovved by chemotherapy according to the EpSSG RMS 2005 protocol. Treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma in children requires a combination of surgical treatment, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The outcome depends on the histology and location of the tumour and is often uncertain.
