Sažetak
The second half of the 20th century is a time of tumultuous socio-political and economic changes. In newly formed socialistic countries characterised by the existence of only one political party and Marxist ideology (different versions) the education has first of all an instrumantal role. The role is accoplished trough intensive socialisation i.e. instrumentalisation and hierarchy of the whole educational system.
There are several crucial periods in the institutional pre-school education in Croatia of that time and each period (1945-1956; 1956-1965; 1965-1980; 1980-1990) characterise changes in the law and pre-school curriculum. If we compare the concept of Croatian pre-school curriculum (in this crucial periods) with the concept of pre-school curriculum in Western Europe and the USA of that time, we can notice some differences in the comprehension of the curriculum. In Croatia of that time pre-school curriculum is list of prinipals (state, party...) requests that automatically produce desired, given educational effect and not a coherent an consistent description of theoretical premises and instructional and administrative procedures important for the educational goals.
In this paper we analyse the goals of the institutional pre-school education in Croatia, articulated in the law and curriculum documentation, in mentioned critical periods. In ideological paradigm (dominant in Croatia in the period between 1945-1990) goals of educational curriculum are in the same time the projection of social demands and the means to achive educational ideal of the ruling ideology.
