Sažetak
The paper presents an overview on cognitive mechanisms in bilingual word learning. The mechanisms of language acquisition and word learning were first explained in monolingual children, and then in bilingual, which allows us to compare the two. In bilingual word learning the focus is put on simultaneous bilingualism rather than on sequential bilingualism. Also, the paper reflects the views on bilingualism as well as the consequences of bilingualism on cognition and cognitive abilities.
