Sažetak
The authors examinated the effects of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occurence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in women. The period of ten years was observed: 5 coinsecutive years (1987-91) before the war and 5 consecutive years (1992-96) during the war. Residents in the region of Mostar (182 000) who had not emigrated or imigrated in the region at war, who suffered from AMI and required admission to the regional hospital Mostra, were includede intothe study. There was an increase in AMI during the war (428 cases) compared to the period before the war (365 cases).(p less 0.05). In the period befoira the war 246 men and 119 women and during the war 267 men and 161 women were admitted to the hospital because of AMI: The comparison of the number of MI- patients before the war and during the war accordina to the age gropus and sey shoved tahat there was a significant increase of AMI in women in the age group 60 to 69 (p less 0.01): The differences in other age groups were not significant. Conclusion: during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina among the domicile pouplation in the region of Mostar the number of cases of AMI among women increased significantly in the age group 60-69 comperd to the pre-wr period. Thos can probably be explained by the lonterms stress due to war.
