Sažetak
This paper deals with the relations of hyponymy and hyperonymy in the English language. It contains definition and explanation of semantic relations in general. It also deals with degree of importance of different semantic relations. Further on, it tries to explain the relation of hyponymy and hyperonymy by using examples. It also deals with set inclusions and complications which arise after attempting to give strict definitions and rules of hyponymy, divides them according to several noted linguists (Miller, Wierzbicka, and Chaffin and Herrmann), and points out problems considering this particular relation. Furthermore, it deals with the relationship between hyponymy and entailment, and tries to explain many irregularities considering particular rules of entailment and hyponymy, types and characteristics of entailment. In the end, it explains Cruse’s contextual relations – the point of view that word meanings depend on other word meanings.
