Sažetak
The prehistoric site of Dolina in Eastern Croatia was excavated in 2012, when a tumulus with an incineration grave was discovered. The rectangular-shaped grave with dimensions 3, 00x1, 70 m contained cremated bones, charcoal, pottery shards and fragments of burned bronze artefacts. Based on grave goods, Tumulus 11 is dated to the end of the 9th or first half of the 8th century BC. Shape and dimensions of the grave suggest that the tumulus was raised directly on the funeral pyre. However, the soil underneath the grave was not burned, which excluded this possibility and raised questions about this unique burial rite. Anthropological analysis of cremated bones, accompanied by archaeological data, will provide information on the deceased and contribute to interpretation of this unusual cremation practice.
