Sažetak
In recent years, direct search methods DSM) have been used to investigate the stability and accuracy of various numerical algorithms.
This approach often provides an additional information about algorithm performance, which may be difficult to discover using theoretical analysis or direct numerical tests.
Following the DSM approach by Higham, we investigate the numerical stability of LU factorization with respect to the choice of the pivoting strategy. The results obtained can also be viewed as a comparison of several direct search methods: Nelder-Mead (simplex search), Subplex (subspace simplex) search and multidirectional search.
