Sažetak
Water cooling in process industry contributes significantly to operating costs, so minimizing external cooling requirements through heat integration is essential for increasing profitability, Chemical process industry, including petroleum refineries, often use closed-loop cooling water systems to supply necessary cooling water. The central unit of such system is a cooling tower in which hot cooling water is cooled by air and returned to the process. In this work a recirculating cooling water system was analyzed, taking into consideration only refinery processes for which data was available. By using KSD (Kim & Smith Design) method, an integrated water using network was synthesized, with aim to demonstrate that load of cooling tower and cost related to cooling water system can be reduced by modifying configuration of heat exchanger network.
