Sažetak
The water reservoir Botonega on the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia is the most important facility in the water supply system of the Istria County. The useful volume of the reservoir is 17.5 mil m3, which ensures the supply of about 50% of the estimated water demand in the next 20 year period. The catchment area of the reservoir is attacked by soil erosion processes of different kind and intensity. With respect to the great economic importance of the reservoir and the observed problem of soil erosion that could shorten the life of the reservoir, different kinds of research on soil erosion phenomena have been started. The investigation of the possibilities of water protection and soil conservation in the catchment area of the reservoir has been started too. The main goal of this research is to find out the optimum concept of antierosion action and works in the catchment area, and the optimum solution for the regulation of torrential watercourses. That should ensure the durability of the reservoir as well the quantity and quality of water necessary for the estimated demand. Within the framework of that research, the preliminary mathematical modelling and hydrologic analysis of the catchment area was done using GIS software package ARC/INFO and ArcView. The results of the modelling and the analysis were used in the parametric estimation of soil erosion production and in the estimation of water and erosion sediment inflow into the reservoir. Also, the analysis of optimal location and dimensions of the barrage for sediment trap was done. The mathematical modelling and hydrologic analysis of the catchment area of the reservoir was presented on the poster. Some examples of the implementation of the results of modelling and analysis are given too.
