Sažetak
The success of Harry Potter series is global and immense, so that many translations have been published worldwide. This thesis analyzes the only Croatian translation of the first book “Harry Potter i kamen mudraca” by comparing it with its British and American counterparts, that is “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. In the analysis, the focus has been shifted from the narrative towards the linguistic aspects of the book. This thesis deals with translation techniques used, with relevant solutions to problems regarding unmatched elements of material and spiritual culture, as well as with translations of names, sounds and newly coined words unique for the Harry Potter series.
