Sažetak
Skeletal remains of three individuals were found in Grave 44 at the Avar cemetery in Nuštar, Eastern Croatia. The cemetery with 196 burials is dated to the end of the 8th and 9th century. Bioarchaeological analysis revealed that skeletal remains from grave 44 belong to juveniles, two of them under five years of age and one of fetal age. Grave findings included bronze rings, circlets, pottery vessel, glass beads and fragments of eggshell. These fragments are the only ones found at the entire cemetery. Eggshells are commonly found among grave goods in many cultures and different time periods as eggs are considered to be symbols of fertility and/or rebirth.
