Sažetak
Properties of composite materials, except on the individual properties of the phases, depend on the morphology and adhesion (interactions) between the phases. The influence of adhesion between the phases is multifaceted. Strong adhesion can increase the mechanical strength, but also poor adhesion in similar material can increase the fracture toughness of the material. The explanation of this behavior is in different morphologies of individual systems. If the adhesion between the phases can be modified, wide range of materials with different properties and applications can be designed - this is the guiding principle of this scientific work. Pretreatment of the filler surface can affect the interactions and optimize adhesion at the interface with the polymer matrix. One way to evaluate the interactions and interfacial adhesion is by calculating parameters such as interfacial free energy, the thermodynamic work of adhesion and spreading coefficient. The theory states that higher work of adhesion, reduction of interfacial free energy and positive spreading coefficient as optimal adhesion parameters lead to effective adhesion at the interface and thus better mechanical properties, however, that it is not always true and the reasons why it is not, is discussed in the work. The work will discuss the research results of interfacial phenomena of ternary systems with pretreated calcium carbonate filler and several polymer matrices.
