Sažetak
Without understanding the importance which emotions may have in any conflict on military as well as civilians, it will be almost impossible to understand complexity and uncertainty of future warfare. Better and deeper understanding of emotion conditioning and structuring, as well as their regulation in future warfare might be applied as powerful conflict prevention tools. In warfare environment, which is extremely stressful for any human, mental readiness training of soldiers should be of vital importance. Therefore, development of new tools and methods for their stress resilience and emotion regulation training, which can maximize soldiers’ mission effectiveness and at the same time minimize risks of potential mental disorders, like PTSD, should be one of the military top priorities. Computer-aided mental readiness training presented in this paper, based on multimodal emotion elicitation, estimation, and regulation, can protect soldier’s cognitive capacities even in the hardest war-fighting situations. Comprehensive longitudinal multimodal analysis of their emotions, moods, feelings, attention, motivation, decision-making in synchronization with multimodal mission-relevant audio-visual stimuli may provide valuable database for personalized predictive modeling of soldier’s future mental readiness potential based on machine learning and reasoning methods. Furthermore, among local civilian populations, emotional context of war-inflicted environments might be characterized with negatively valenced dominant emotions. Such prevalence of negative emotions among civilian population may also cause enormous mental stress disorders, like PTSD. Therefore, transformation of their negative dominant emotional maps towards more positively dominant emotions is of paramount importance. Transformation of such negative dominant emotional maps of war-inflicted groups to more desirable dominant emotions might be facilitated by emotionally based strategic communications. Emotionally based strategic communications presented in this paper provide a soft power and soft approach to winning “hearts and minds” of the local population, what might be more cost-effective than currently predominant “kinetic hard power.” A successful application of presented concepts may bring the emotion “not only as a problem to be overcome, but also as a solution that can help individuals and groups to overcome problems.” Such an approach can sharpen insight into complex, turbulent and uncertain politico-military future warfare environments of the 21st century.
