Sažetak
The professional phagocyte Dictyostelium discoideum has been widely used as a host for several bacterial pathogens, including Legionella pneumophila, Mycobacterium spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Salmonella typhimurium. The genome sequence of D. discoideum is known and annotated and can be used to study the virulence factors of pathogenic bacteria as well as the complex crosstalk between host and pathogen. Nothing is known about the intracellular fate of F. tularensis within D. discoideum. In this report, we explored intracellular trafficking of F. novicida in D. discoideum as a new host model to study pathogenesis of tularemia.
