Sažetak
A Line x Tester analysis involving eight winter wheat varieties: Marija, Lipa, Banica and Dukat (male), and Cerera, Kuna, Magdalen, Žitarka (female parents), were used for the study of some quantitative traits (main culm height, main spike length, number of fertile spikelets in the main spike, number of fertile culms per plant, kernel number and weight of main spike and whole plant, 1000 kernels weight, and harvest index). They were used because they differ in agronomic properties, they have been grown commercially and used often for crossings in breeding programs. Variety Magdelen exhibited positive GCA for the majority of traits. Varieties Lipa, Kuna and Dukat have positive GCA only for a few important traits. Negative GCA was estimated for six traits with Žitarka, while Banica exhibited negative GCA for weight of main spike only. Significant positive SCA were noted in crosses: Cerera x Marija, Kuna x Banica, while negative SCA in Kuna x Marija and Cerera x Dukat crosses were obtained. The highest mean heterosis for all combinations was found for weight and number of kernels of the whole plant (27.54%, 19.62%). The lowest heterosis was found for 1000-kernel weight (0.665%) and negative heterosis was estimated for harvest index (-0.25%). The highest mean positive heterosis for all traits was noted in crosses: Kuna x Lipa (21.421%), Magdalen x Lipa (17.59%) and Kuna x Banica (16.78%), the lowest for Žitarka x Lipa (0.631%). The negative heterosis was found in crosses: Cerera x Dukat (-5.297%), Žitarka x Marija (-5.157%) and Kuna x Marija (-4.568%). The highest mean heritability in the broad sense (hb) and narrow sense (hn) was noted for main spike length (hb=0.742, hn=0.738), and weight of kernels on the main spike (hb=0.641, hn=0.525). The lowest mean heritability in the broad sense was noted for 1000 kernel weight (hb=0.189) and in narrow sense for the harvest index (hn=0.046).
