Sažetak
Based on the primary documentary sources of the Croatian State Archives (CSA), the funds of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) and the Croatian Informing Service „Croatia“, as well as journals daily and periodical information from late 1944 till the May of 1945, the author analyze the content of the foreign and domestic political and of course war topics in press of the ISC. Connecting political orders and dictations to the newspapers editorials with larger number of the articles and real situation at the European battlefields at that time, the author concludes that the Ustasha propaganda helped by the Third Reich’s one, had a significant influence on the public opinion in the ISC at the end of the War. Based on the sources which were available to the author, it is pretty clear that the majority of the citizens in the ISC were fully aware of the fact that the Third Reich had lost the war, as well as their satellites, but the atmosphere which was deliberately created by the Ustasha authorities in the ISC caused the exodus of the great proportions in early May 1945.
