Sažetak
Knowledge about surface properties of fibres and their interaction with the environment is the key towards successful processing of fibres and fabrics. The zeta potential describes the surface charge at the interface between solids, such as fibres and granular material but also flat sheets, and the surrounding aqueous solution. Being sensitive to the composition of the aqueous solution, the zeta potential furthermore allows for conclusions on the interaction of materials with their environment. We make use of the streaming potential technique to determine the zeta potential directly on technical material surfaces. This technique also enables studies of the time-dependence of adsorption and desorption processes. Among other examples, the rate of adsorption of fabric softeners on knitted fabrics shall be discussed in more detail. Conclusions on the effectiveness and stability of the fabric softener were obtained by zeta potential analysis depending on the pH value of the surrounding liquid.
