Sažetak
Private accommodation is becoming a more significant segment of all tourist accommodation facilities in European receptive tourist destinations. The economic crises, the system of unemployment and deindustrialization processes affect the change of business culture, culture of leisure time and cultural life in total. Basic research goal of this paper is private accommodation, as an alternative form and a challenge to professional forms of accommodation to the hotel industry. The benchmarking analysis method and authors’ research prove the thesis that private accommodation is an important form of accommodation and hospitality services and represents a serious challenge that facing hospitality economy. This paper presents the results of authors' research of private accommodation and hotel accommodation in terms of monitoring and application trends in the provision of accommodation (houses, apartments and hotels). Additional research objectives include presentation of the daily consumption (which, in the private accommodation, is far lower compared to hotel guests) and seasonality of private accommodation. Authors point to a complex structure of tourist consumption and competitiveness of private accommodation in hotel accommodation. Research was conducted on a sample of 350 respondents. Model studies are holders of private accommodation and destination management of ten selected destinations in the Republic of Croatia. The obtained results were analysed, and based upon the conclusions, key problems were identified and in accordance with the goals emphasized a possibility for increasing of tourism consumption in hotels and private accommodation.
