Sažetak
Increase efficiency and environmental protection are increasingly emphasized in all social activities. The traffic is placed particular emphasis because of its large share of energy consumption and significant environmental damage. While rail has significant advantages in efficiency and environmental degradation in relation to other forms of transportation, most railways is making great efforts to improve these aspects are. The paper discusses the elements of possible improvements in the railway system as a whole. Emphasis is given to the segments of the infrastructure, railroad cars and driving style. Detailed lists possible technical solutions and improvements in theoretical terms, and examples of concrete solutions to some of Europe's railways. Normally this is in the form of long-term projects that have already made significant results, some of which are expected in the future a lot.
