Sažetak
Objective: Considering adverse impact on pregnancy outcomes due to obstetric complications (including gestosis) which are related to several characteristics of a woman prior or during pregnancy (such as woman’s age, pre-pregnancy weight and weight gain during pregnancy), the aim was to determine the incidence of gestosis, and to observe possible influence on pregnancy outcomes. Methods: Randomised longitudinal prospective study included combination of a short questionnaire, anthropometric measurements and blood analysis of 222 pregnant women at the beginning of 1st trimester and at 20th gestational week. Additional delivery data were collected 6 weeks postpartum and included gestation, birth length and weight and delivery modus. Results: Cumulative incidence of gestosis was 32.4 % with the incidence rate of 387 per 1000 pregnant women. The highest incidence of gestosis was found in pregnant women of higher pre-pregnancy BMI. Out of all four gestosis, hypertension and edemas were usually accompanied, gestational diabetes was present in smaller share, and proteinuria was not noted. Maternal age by itself show significant influence on the pregnancy outcomes, while the combination of higher maternal age and higher BMI show even greater inverse risks for pregnancy outcomes. Pregnancy outcomes in terms of newborn show the highest birth weight and length among women of higher BMI. Still, the lowest weight gain had women of higher pre-pregnancy BMI. Conclusions: Observed characteristics again proved their importance in pregnancy outcomes. Also the high incidence of gestosis, mainly due to women’s pre-pregnancy status stress out the need for long term education and prevention programmes.
