Sažetak
The poster discusses the extensive studies of Leonardo's painting technique and pays a special attention to the non- contact and non-invasive analytical methods of research. These methods have been used in the latest examinations of Mona Lisa carried out by the experts from the laboratory of the French Center for Museum Research and Restoration in the Musée du Louvre. The analyses have shown the painting’s internal structure thus enabling us to discover more about its physical and technical properties. These investigations involved scientific imaging using photography and X-rays, as well as emissiography, X-ray fluorescence and Raman spectrometry. Based on the results of this sophisticated research, a replica of the painting has been made using the same materials that - according to the scientists - Leonardo used. Through the process of making this replica, a case study of Leonardo’s painting technique will be demonstrated for each phase of the creation of the painting ; from the preparatory sketch of the composition and the first layers of paint, through further stages that lead to the picture’s final appearance. The aim of this study is casting a new light upon Leonardo’s work. This will hopefully be achieved with the use of the results of scientific analysis as a leading tool that can provide us a better understanding of Leonardo’s distinctive style of painting - the subtle sfumatto effect.
