Sažetak
The essential research question intended to be answered in this paper is whether Croatian banking is as stable as it is often being argued in public. For that purpose, banks’ asset quality, which mostly depends on the capabilities in field of debtor selection and risk management in general, will be firstly examined and evaluated. This will be followed by an analysis of the earning mode of banks and an assessment whether earning levels are excessive considering the current position of the national economy. Finally, the work will be completed with the analysis of banks’ own funds and appraisal of whether they are optimal, which means sufficiently protective and at the same time acting in an anti recession manner. The research is based on the analysis of various facts from Croatian banking and economy taking into account relevant theoretical positions and practice of the developed financial systems.
