Sažetak
The influence of sodium ions in the inhibitory action of magnesium ions in the gastric absorption of calcium was studied in vitro, using bags made from surviving epithelia of bovine rumen, omasum and abomasum. The bags were filled with a combined solution of calcium (10 mg Ca/100 ml), magnesium (10 or 20 mg Mg/100 ml) and sodium ( 102.5, 205 or 1, 025 mg Na/100 ml) chlorides. Radioactive calcium (45CaCl2 ; 37 kBq/ml) was used as a tracer. The bags were immersed in Tyrode solution and the appearance of radioactivity was measured using a GM counter. Results were expressed as percentages of initial radioactivity. Sodium ions stimulate calcium absorption in the rumen. In the omasum, a stimulatory effect was achived from a solution containing 10 mg/100 ml of magnesium and 1, 025 mg/100 ml of sodium. In the abomasum the same effect was achieved from solutions conteining 10 mg/100 ml of magnesium and 1, 025 mg/100 ml of sodium, as well as from solutions conteining 20 mg/100 ml of magnesium, and all three concentracions of sodium used. Sodium ions mainly abolished the inhibitory effect of magnesium in calcium absorption, but each of the epithelia used in these studies has its own peculiarity, each of them functioning as a specific exchanger system.
