Sažetak
This paper comprises some relevant experiences by long term project Farm Survey at national level, based on theoretic issues and methodology of farm business statistics from EU and FAO systems. The central issue is to quantify some socio-economics characteristics of the family farms in Croatia.
Results of the research on the representative sample of 892 family farms shows that socio-economics conditions for number of farms are much better then it is according to Census from the year 1991. Farms in the Survey have on disposal more production resources, educated, mostly younger farmers and market aimed production and represent base for the future agricultural development in Croatia. Conducted research point at more present process of land bulking and farms encircled with research use, in average, 9.0 hectares of the agricultural land and 6.4 ha of the arable land.
Remaining on the farm and development of the agricultural production is result, not only conditiones but decisons of farmer, members of his family accordingly to their judgement and aims, which is subject of the other part of the contribution.
Results shows that 51.8 per cent of the farms intend to keep present volumen of production and, only 2.0 per cent of the total number of the farms wants to introduce new production.
Intentions of farmers in the future are often based not only on adequate economic position but on whole socio-economic conditions.
