Sažetak
Robert Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman have always portrayed in their films the outcasts of society, the marginalized ones and dealt with the problems of social perception and censorship that homosexuals came across in their lives. From dealing with marginalization of people with AIDS in Common Threads to the fight for the rights of homosexuals in The Times of Harvey Milk, from the censorship in Hollywood in The Celluloid Closet to censorship in literature in Howl, Epstein and Friedman have made their filmmaking goal to raise awareness and educate their audience on the social problems homosexual minority encounters every day. While working with the marginalized parts of the society and portraying their lives on the screen, they have moved the borders of film and introduced a whole new way of filmmaking that, at the same time, is historically accurate and socially engaged in promoting human rights.
